DESCRIPTION:Hello\, everyone.  We received some requests from our food banks based on client requests. \n\nPlease shop for almond milk\, cereal (low sugar)\, and canned proteins.  Canned chicken\, salmon\, and fish are very popular canned protein requests.  If you happen to go to Trader Joe’s\, look for their canned fish selection.  The grilled sardines and other fishes are delicious and quite inexpensive.\n\nOur next pick up is October 12 starting at 9:00 am.

DESCRIPTION:Hello.  I hope everyone is managing to stay cool in this heat. \nOur next Green Bag and Red Bag pick up is Saturday\, August 12th.  We will pick up your bag(s) EARLY – starting at 8:00 am.  This gives the people processing the donations outside at Clark’s Market cooler working conditions. \nSome of the requests that have come in are for canned meat\, protein-based (low sodium) soups\, shelf-stable almond or rice milk\, and brown rice.  \nSedona area schools begin the first week of school in August\, so please consider adding some nutritious snack items for the kids.  \nOther items that are requested are spices/seasonings\, and cooking oils (in plastic containers\, as we cannot accept anything in glass).  \nThis pick-up is also our yearly collection for school supplies for our local schools.  The Staples in Sedona has sales on school supplies:  https://www.staples.com/school-supplies/cat_SC350235 and free delivery with orders over $25. \n Please place all school supplies in the plastic Red bags.  \nI’ve included the list of requested school supplies for our local teachers.  These are the items that they typically buy out-of-pocket\, so anything that is available through a centralized supply cabinet is much appreciated by them.  \nI have lots of attachments below – have fun and THANK YOU for helping our community. \nJackie Barbour.\nGreen Bag volunteer – Pine Valley Neighborhood Food Coordinator\n(301) 639-8439 \nYou may not expect this\, but in the Verde Valley\, including Sedona\, many people go hungry. DESCRIPTION:Our next Green Bag is scheduled for February 11th.  It will also be a Red Bag pickup month.  If you choose to donate items for our local school teachers\, please put them into the Red Bags.  If you do not use the Red Bags\, please include them with your Green Bags for our next cycle.\n\n\nCHANGES are afoot….\n\nThere have been some changes announced by the Verde Valley Neighborhood Food Project (VVNFP).  The volunteers who run the VVNFP choose to do so with very little money.  It is an organization that is lean by decision.  As a result\, monetary donations are discouraged.  Donors who want to write checks should send them directly to the food banks.  As a result\, donors who prefer to only donate money and not provide non-perishable food items for pickup will no longer be considered Green Bag donors.  Those who donate on occasion will still be considered regular donors as long as they can provide the shelf stable food we need for our local pantries.\n\nIn addition\, food donations cannot be designated for a specific food bank.  For the collection to work\, each food bank receives a portion of the total amount of food collected.  St. Vincent De Paul Pantry and Verde Valley School Pantry only get food from the Green Bag collection effort.\n\nAs your Neighborhood Green Bag Representative\, I am available to help if you find you cannot get out to purchase food.  Please contact me through email jbarbour55@gmail.com or phone (301) 639-8439‬.

I would like to thank everyone for a great food contribution in June\, and also send a shout out to Linda and Vic Lukas\, who covered our route.    \nLooking ahead to August (13th)\, we will be picking up your Green Bags of food donations and Red Bags with school supplies.  I’ve included a list of supplies requested by our teachers below.  \n\n \nI hope to start the pickup at 8:30 am.  Does anyone have a problem with this earlier time?  We hope to get our delivery to the folks who process everything a little earlier because of the heat. For our area\, currently the project is called Verde Valley Neighborhood Food Project. \nYou may not expect this\, but in the Verde Valley\, including Sedona\, many people go hungry. This program helps fight hunger in our community. The following information is taken from the VV Neighborhood Food Project’s website (https://verdevalleyfoodproject.org). \nWHAT \n“A Simple System That Really Works. \n“EVERY 2 MONTHS—on the second Saturday of every even month—our Neighborhood Coordinators pick up bags of healthy nonperishable food that neighbors have left outside their front doors. They leave empty green bags for next time\, and take all the food to local Food Banks. It’s that easy!” \nHOW \nDetails here https://verdevalleyfoodproject.org/941-2/. In Pine Valley you can contact Jackie Barbour\, our neighborhood point of contact at jbarbour55@gmail.com\, or call her at (301) 639-8439. \nWHERE \nPickups happen in front of your home. Simply place your green bag (supplied by Jackie after you contact her) with non-perishable food on the pick-up day. \nWHEN \nThe June 2022 pickup date is Saturday\, June 11. Each month the needs may be different for certain food items. Sometimes you can add a “red bag\,” that you can fill with specific school supplies.
